Our nets are meticulously handcrafted by two skilled,
experienced woodworkers in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
We labor over each net using time-honored woodworking methods and tools
to achieve a feel and look unattained by CNC machines or in factories overseas.
Our goal is to bring you a superior landing net without damaging the environment you'll use it in.
In our materials, production process, packaging, and even paper products,
we strive to make environmentally responsible choices -
so all you have to worry about is getting your net on the river.
Owning and operating a wood furniture and cabinet making business since 1975, woodworker Dave Ottinger decided to unite his professional skills with his love of fly fishing to produce his dream landing net. First using the net himself, then making some for his fishing buddies, Dave soon found the demand for his nets reached outside of his social circle. Del Rio Nets was born. He and his long-time employee Fili have been crafting fishing nets in their shop in Albuquerque, New Mexico ever since.
The appeal of the Del Rio Net is in the quality craftsmanship and thoughtful design. Unimpressed with the typical blockish net handles, Dave sought to make a uniquely formed handle that is ergonomically sculpted to fit comfortably and securely in your hand.
He also considered the wood quality, beauty and its origin. Dave sourced sustainable American Cherry from Pennsylvania and laminated it in four strips to ensure the hoop's strength. He used a low toxicity 3-coat satin finish to protect the frame from water and sun damage.
Dave mortised and pinned the brass eyelet securely into the handle of his landing net to ensure it's stability and make it easy to attach a carabiner, magnet, clasp, or other preferred attachment.
Dave set out to make himself a fishing net, and ended up with a new business. The resulting landing nets are totally unique and exceptionally crafted. A Del Rio net promises you quality, durability, and environmental responsiblity. Whether it will make you a better fisherman is not proven, but we think it will make you a more satisfied one.
